I can recall with fond memories of playing the actual Atari Tempest upright cabinet and spin the rotary knob controller super hard 'n' fast & it'd spin for a long time back in the early 1980s - it has a hefty weighted flywheel setup (which explains why it could spin for such a long duration before slowing down to a crawl). The Hori Paddle controller add-on for the NDS Lite handheld was "spot on" with the weighted fly-wheel in minature form - how cool is that? It's ace for playing both Space Invaders Extreme 1 & 2 at it's best. Was pleasantly surprised to see that it works with Tempest X3 and Super Breakout (plus Tempest but the C-shooter character spins continously if the volume knob is moved just a tad bit in either direction but has built-in dedicated PSX mouse controller support for better player control-wise + stopping on a dime if the situation calls for it) on the Atari Arcade Classics Vol.1 for the PSX platform (you can also use the slick Nyko PSX Trackball controller that Nyko had to consult with Dan Kramer with both aforementioned USA region PSX game titles as well). Namco never sold it at retail for the North American PSX marketbase anyways. Yes, I bought one of those cool Namco Volume Controller in Japan back in early 2000. Serofans is VERY VERY basic that might disappoint most _ Also doesn't play as well as Block Kuzushi - Deden no Gyakushuu Arkanoid R 2000 is okay, but a bit stiff and stale. Get this game, it's the best volume controller game I've played so far. This game also has 2 player mode either against the cpu or player 2. Not sure if this affects the game or is just to make it more clear in some levels.Įven playing with a normal ps1 controller it plays good with the x button speeding up your paddle. Playing with the normal ps1 controller the shoulder buttons make the color of the ball and paddle toggle between pink and yellow color. I assume that after every 10 levels succeeded you can save your progress.
After I had completed 10 levels I got the option to save. Pick the bottom left option to just play the levels. (except for the previously mentioned story mode) To start the game & navigating you need a normal ps1 controller, but when you enter a game you can use just the volume controller. This game is great, just make sure to NOT choose the main story mode, because you will need to switch between normal ps1 controller and volume controller to go through the levels. Mini review and instructions of Block Kuzushi - Deden no Gyakushuu Strange since when googling that it seems to be for the namco arcade stick _

My white Namco Volume Controller has this serial number on the bottom: NPC-102. Sorcerer's maze (US version of Action Puzzle: Prism Land)

These games do NOT support the volume controller: Maybe it's also good to mention which games/versions do not support it at all, even though they could've supported it. So what other breakout style games support the Namco Volume Controller SLPH-00015? Tempest X3 should thus be playable as well (not a break out clone at all though) Super Breakout (Atari Arcade Classics Vol.1)Īnd apparantly all negcon compatible games Bomb Bee in the Japanese release of Namco Museum Vol. Cutie Q in the Japanese release of Namco Museum Vol. Action Puzzle: Prism Land (Japanese version of Sorcerer's maze) I'd like to compile a list of all working breakout style games that support this little controller.Ĭonfirmed working breakout style Namco Volume Controller games:
